Sustainability has been firmly embedded in Pfeifer’s DNA ever since the company was founded by Barbara Pfeifer in 1948. We added biofuels to our product range as early as the 1990s, enabling us to turn 100 per cent of the raw materials we use into our high-quality products.
At our sites in Austria, Germany, Czechia and Finland, we provide 2,600 people with steady jobs in an industry that is part of the solution as we strive to make Europe carbon-neutral.
Our products ensure the long-term binding of CO2 for the construction and logistics industry, and our production of biofuels, green electricity and heat is aiding efforts to replace fossil fuels.
Building on the sustainable raw material that is timber, Pfeifer is actively helping to decarbonise society through its products.
All of our production is based in European countries with the highest possible standards of occupational health and safety.
100 per cent of the timber that we process comes from sustainably managed European forests and trustworthy procurement relationships with 3,500 suppliers.
We generate around 300,000 MWh a year of green electricity at our sites.
The same sites produce some 900,000 MWh a year of heat from biomass.
Our products bind roughly 3,500,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year, and the biofuels that we manufacture help to save about 600,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year.
We obtain around 95 per cent of our operating materials and system components from suppliers that are based in the EU and that are thus required to meet stringent welfare and environmental law standards.
Our products have been awarded all the leading certificates, including PEFC, FSC, CE certificates, ETA, IPPC, ENPlus and DIN CERTCO, meaning that we guarantee high quality and environmental standards.
We draw on the experience and knowledge of our longstanding employees and on the fresh perspectives that new team members bring. The focus here is on training and continuing professional development for all our staff, from managers through to apprentices.
